Shopping for the Coming School Year

When people talk about “back to school” and “back to school sales,” often they are talking about grade school or high school. Higher education students need to shop for back to school supplies, too, though, and thanks to the infamous high prices of textbooks and tuition any discounts are welcome. Luckily, there are back to school coupons available for all education levels, from preschool to university.

What to Buy

Did you know that there are back to school discounts and coupons available to help college students buy textbooks? Now that’s a worthwhile reason to use coupons. College students tend to think of their academic supplies when considering what to buy, though, and might overlook the fact that they are leaving home. When you move into a dorm room, you will need to buy appliances and, possibly, furniture.

If you can’t find coupons or discounts on those items, then it’s even more reason to buy your academic supplies frugally so that you have more money left over for the other essentials. If you participate in sports, remember that you’ll have to buy your sports gear. Other things to buy include electronics, like a cell phone and a computer, and a sturdy backpack to haul the textbooks around in.

Plan Before You Shop

This is a golden rule for many moms who do the family’s grocery shopping, and it applies to back to school shopping, too: make a list before you shop. If you write what you need and how much it should cost on a list, you’ll be much less likely to buy things you don’t really need. You’ll also be reminded to save money when you see everything you still have yet to buy.
