Getting a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry

If you’re interested in science, and want to do something like running lab equipment or teaching high school science classes, you may consider a career in the field of chemistry. Getting a bachelor’s degree usually only takes four years and you can attend a college, university, or online school.

High School

Chemistry is a combination of biology and physics, so it is important to take as many of these science classes as you can in high school. You will also want to take as many math classes as you can. Keep your grades up so you can get into a good college and start looking into colleges your junior and senior years.

Apply to a College

Find a college that offers your major along with any minors you wish to take. You can find colleges by talking to your school guidance councilor, researching online, and asking friends and family members for advice. Start applying for colleges at the beginning of your senior year and try to submit applications to several different colleges. Do plenty of research so you can find the best college that fits you needs.

Work Your Way Through School

College won’t be as easy as high school. Organize your time well, study often, and complete your prerequisites. Staying on top of things can help you easily get through school and successfully graduate with a degree in chemistry. You will need to keep your grades up to continually be accepted back each semester, so it is important to study and obtain a high GPA.

There are some careers where completing a master’s degree is required. This usually takes six years of college courses, but can pay off in your salary and education. If you need a master’s degree for your choice career, here are simplified steps on how to achieve it.

Complete an Undergrad Program

Get a bachelor’s degree in the area you want to study in. If you’re headed for a master’s degree, you will usually complete a pre-professional program, so make sure you attend a college that offers your desired career courses. achieving a bachelor’s degree will usually take four years, and it is important to keep your grades up so you can get into a grad school.

Determine What Field to Specialize In

A master’s degree will be much more specialized that a bachelor’s degree. The competition is tough, so it is important that you research what the particular program is looking for as far as GPA, undergrad degree, and other specifications. This part of your schooling will usually take two years, but once you receive your master’s degree, you can begin working in a specialized are and make a high salary.

Achieving a doctorate’s degree isn’t easy and it requires eight to ten years of schooling after high school. You can get a doctorate in anything, but some jobs like medical doctors or advanced lawyers require that you obtain a doctorate. It is important that if you choose to pursue a doctorate that you know how to get one.

The first step to achieving a doctorate is to get a bachelor’s degree in the area you want to study. A bachelor’s degree usually takes four years to complete and can be completed at most colleges and universities. These degrees will be more broad, while as you progress, they become more specialized, so if you want to become a doctor, you would begin by getting a pre-medical bachelor’s degree, then progress to a master’s program.
